Myofascial Therapy/Release
Fascia is a connective tissue that surrounds almost all the tissues in the body. Myofacial release is an important aspect to for proper functioning muscle tissue. When muscular tissue becomes taut, it can also bind and constrict the facia that surrounds it. Myofacial release is targeted work that helps to release both the muscle tension and facia from its restricted state. This work can be mildly uncomfortable, but has powerful results in restoring range of motion and reducing pain.
Trigger Point Therapy
Much in the same vein as Myofacial Release, Trigger Point Therapy is aimed at restoring the body to its most nominative state. Triggers points are unique, in that, they are a sustained contraction of the smallest motor unit in a muscle. Much like facia, if even one of the these units is stuck in a constant contraction, it can affect the entire muscle, and even the rest of the body.
The idea with this modality is to sift through the muscular tissue to find the nodule and apply manual pressure to release the trigger point. Again, much like Myofacial work, this modality can be uncomfortable; the benefits far outweigh the discomfort of receiving, and this method can be used to help correct postural and injury related issues that have been years in the making.
